Four bedroom environment levers, each with an icon and a target: temperature 60 to 67 degrees Fahrenheit, light made dark with blackout curtains or a mask, noise kept quiet or a steady fan or pink noise, air ventilated with humidity around 40 to 60 percent.
Tune the room, not just the routine. Temperature, light, noise and air are the four levers that make a bedroom sleepable. Change one at a time.
Four steps to install blackout curtains for a darker room: measure window width and height plus overhang, choose a sturdy extendable rod mounted wide of the frame, mount brackets into studs and secure the rod, hang curtains so they overlap the frame to block edge light.
Aim for cave-dark. The light leaks at the edges, not the middle. Mount the rod wide and let the panels overlap the frame and pool slightly.
Four escalating steps to sleep cooler: set the thermostat to 60 to 67 degrees Fahrenheit, switch to breathable sheets and a lightweight comforter, choose a cooling mattress or topper, and add an active bed-cooling device if still hot.
Cheapest fixes first. Most hot sleepers are fixed by the thermostat and bedding before spending on a cooling mattress. Escalate only if you are still warm.
